Episode 01 – This is How We Get Bandits – Remastered

Episode 1 of The Fantastic Worlds Podcast is here! Let’s meet our heroes: Pippa Locksley (Abbie), the bougie thief with a heart of gold, Abraxas Hillrunner (Angel), the socially-awkward winter druid, and Odessa Granade (Kay), the mysterious and sassy gunslinger and her living teddy bear Jim.

Our adventure starts in Taldor, but you’ll have to listen to find out where it leads! Join us as our heroes meet nobles, talk to guards with weird names (cough, cough Illin Orstag), and learn that they may be contending with the influence of Irrisen, the fabled land of everlasting winter.

Other happenings: Abraxas eats a lot of meat, Odessa scores with the blacksmith’s daughter, Pippa says “winter-touched” but it sounds like “wiener-touched,” and Dustin (AKA Game Dad) gets angry at the party for semi-breaking the fourth wall.

Why I Game – Angel Espinoza

I was all about Saturday morning cartoons. Regardless of what time I went to bed the night before, I would start my weekend ritual at the crack of dawn in order catch the first show of my line up. There was no doubt in my mind: I would grow to be a cartoonist. I am currently employed as an Instructional Designer for a state agency. Not exactly in the animation business but my PowerPoint presentations are gorgeous. My Saturday line up no longer consist of Snorks, Muppet Babies, The Littles, Disney’s Adventures of the Gummi Bears, Punk Brewser, Dungeons & Dragons, or Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. However, I still can recall that feeling of being part of an adventure, unraveling mysteries and foiling the villain. Those feelings still hold sway as I read a book, follow a favorite show, or on opening day of a long anticipated movie.

My mom would have never allowed a player’s handbook in the house when I was a child so I suppose it was good that I was introduced to the epic world of pen and paper RPGs in college. My first character was a lawful evil cleric of Vecna. I had the time of my life. Hanging out with a weird group of nerds that became my closest friends drinking heavily, staying up for 72 hours straight, and strategically casting blade barrier. Each new game gave me the opportunity to create a story for my characters. I was not an animator but I painted and breathed life into my creations.

Why do I game you ask? Why do you paint? Why do I host a weekly board game night? Why do you sail? It is FUN! Do you think reading is amazing? Try collaborative storytelling. Do you enjoy watching Supernatural? Roll yourself a fighter/rogue, romance it up with a cute Planetar, and fight evil alongside your tiefling brother.

What links do these strange blizzards and swaths of wintry landscapes have with Irrisen, and is there any truth to the growing rumors that the Witch Queen Elvanna has taken full control of the realm? Abraxas Hillrunner – Level 1

Abraxas Hillrunner

Much of his childhood was spent in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. Therefore, he was more than thrilled when he heard and answered the call to serve the natural world. Since then he has traveled far from his homeland and his beloved family.

Abraxas revels in travel and exploration. Because of his upbringing, he is most at home in the hills and mountainous terrain. He is also comfortable with the cold. He spends much of his time in the wilderness and that is the way he likes it. He is easy going and inquisitive; useful traits for a traveler. His calling keeps him primarily in the wilds. He can be quite the fish out of water on the rare visit to “civilization.”
